Your Pre-Surgery Journey

What to expect, what to prepare, and how to feel ready — step by step

30 Days or Less Before Surgery

Your preparation starts now, and we’re here to guide you through it.

  • One of our nurses will call to review your health history before your pre-admission testing (PAT) visit
  • A staff member will help schedule your PAT appointment (includes lab work)
  • At your PAT visit, you’ll receive tailored education about your surgery and recovery
  • Schedule any additional imaging or diagnostics (if needed)
  • Talk with your PCP, cardiologist, or specialist about which medications to stop
  • Stop smoking or using nicotine — it significantly improves healing

14 Days Before Surgery

Getting your home and your support system ready matters more than you think.

  • Make small home adjustments: clear walkways, set up your recovery space near a bathroom, gather essentials
  • Arrange transportation to and from surgery center, and a caregiver to stay with you for 24 hours after surgery
  • Start reviewing your pre-op and post-op instruction packet

7–10 Days Before Surgery

The final checklist begins- let’s get everything squared away.

  • ✔ Complete any final tests or clearances
  • ✔ Confirm your caregiver/transportation plans
  • ✔ Review your personalized pre-op medication list with your provider

7 Days Before Surgery

Now’s the time to stop anything that could interfere with anesthesia or healing.

  • ❌ Stop taking NSAIDs (Motrin, Aleve), alcohol, and blood thinners (if advised)
  • ❌ Discontinue all vitamins, herbal supplements, CBD, and weight loss injections

1–5 Days Before Surgery

Your body, your space, and your mindset all deserve a little extra care now.

  • ✔ Prep your home: remove tripping hazards, stock easy meals, place essentials within reach
  • Pack light, but smart:
    • Loose, comfy clothing (open-front shirts are ideal)
    • CPAP or inhalers (if used)
    • Phone charger, glasses, hearing aids
    • Dentures, contact lenses with cases
    • Any mobility aids you use (cane, walker, brace)
  • A nurse will call you the business day before surgery to confirm:
    • Surgery and arrival time
    • Any last-minute questions

The Night Before Surgery

Let’s keep things simple, safe, and restful.

  • Take a shower with plain soap — no lotions, makeup, or nail polish
  • Double-check your instructions and surgery checklist
  • Remove all jewelry, body piercings, and contact lenses
  • No food or drink for at least 8 hours before surgery (including gum or mints)
  • Try to relax- a good night’s sleep will help your body heal
